MELESSA was founded by 13 chairs of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich. It came on stream in January 2008.

The collaboration of researchers from several subjects enhances a broader view on topics and innovative research. Such a strong participation of different fields of research in one laboratory gives an excellent precondition for versatile research on a high level.

Experimental research nowadays is an established device in economic and social sciences. It provides the possibility to enrich theoretical work with practical applications. Results may in return help to put forward new theories. Furthermore experimental research brings the feature of a controlled analysis of scientifically relevant problems.

The laboratory consists of several rooms. The biggest room contains a LAN-based system of 25 clients. Two more rooms give the possibility to conduct audio and video experiments with up to twelve mobile clients. This equipment makes MELESSA one of the most up to date laboratories in Germany.
